Leach drains are the part of your septic system you never see — until they fail. They take the treated water from your septic tank and let it soak away into the ground. Over time the drain and the soil around it can clog with solids and biological build-up, and once that happens the water has nowhere to go.
Signs your leach drain is failing
- Wet, boggy or unusually green patches of ground over the drain
- Gurgling drains or toilets that flush slowly
- Sewage smells in the yard, especially after heavy use
- Septic tank filling much faster than it used to
- Wastewater backing up into the house on wet days
If any of these sound familiar, don't wait — a flooded leach drain only gets worse, and repeated pump-outs of the tank treat the symptom, not the cause.
How rejuvenation works
We start by pumping the excess water out of the flooded leach system and inspecting the drain to work out why it stopped soaking. In many cases the drain can be rejuvenated — cleaned out and given time and treatment to restore the soil's ability to absorb water — at a fraction of the cost of replacement. Where the drain is beyond saving, we'll tell you straight and arrange refurbishment or replacement; septic and leach drain installations are one of our licensed trades.
